4 days Ratanakiri community jungle trekking

Ratanakiri community trek
4 days trek
Level: Medium hard

First day:
Departing from Banlung and venturing north by boat along the Sesan River, we dock the boat 45 minutes later and begin hiking for 3 hours through moderately difficult hilly jungle to arrive at a 40-meter-tall waterfall, Riyus, where our animist Kachok guides offer whiskey and other sacrifices to the spirit of the waterfall. We will set up camp there, but if you want to hike a few further miles, our knowledgeable ranger can accompany you.

Second day:
On the second day, which involves a long trek through deep and dense jungle’s pathways, our English-speaking guide and an indigenous expert ranger will show you about the benefits of the plants that we may use and eat. After breakfast, we will travel and hike into the Virakchey National Park area for six hours. We’ll have lunch by the little river, then camp by the another non touristic waterfall.

Third day:
After breakfast, we will trek for an additional 6 hours to reach our destination, the “O’Nang Kray” river. The trail is a little challenging because there aren’t many people walking at some points, so we must gradually create new trails to get there. Our lunch will be in the middle of the day near a small stream between the second campsite and the “O Nang Kray” river. Our final campsite is a gorgeous big river that is suitable for swimming and fishing.Around 7 o’clock at night, you can go on a night hike to try to spot wildlife like sluggish lorises, huge owls, butterflies, and other critters that come out of the jungle at night.

Fourth day
After having coffee and breakfast at the third campground, we will hike still a bit far for 4-5 hours to the village, where we will have our final meal with the native people and visit their town before taking a boat back. As a result, our tour will be over by 4-5 p.m.
*Take note that while land-leaches are present in some areas of the jungle during periods of rain, they are not present in the river.
